Holy Mooron and Wounds of Christ

As the Holy Church prepares for the Holy Mooron Consecration (മൂറോൻ കൂദാശ | Holy Chrism), I share this liturgical painting.

This work is inspired by a hymn from the Evening Prayer (Kymtho):

“The scent of Chrism, O Lord, rises from Your wounds”(നിൻ മുറിവുകളീന്നേറ്റേൻ മൂറോൻ…)

In this painting, Christ stands as the eternal source of grace. From His holy wounds flows not blood alone, but the fragrant mystery of the Mooron—the life of the Spirit poured out for the Church.

As St. John Chrysostom teaches, “the side of Christ is the beginning of all the Holy Mysteries of the Church” (Homilies on John 85). From that pierced side flows the life of the Church. In the painting below, the Catholicos, the shepherd of the Church, stands with open hands—not to take, but to receive.

What is given from Christ becomes the life of the Church. From the wounds of Christ – to the hands of the shepherd, and from the shepherd to the faithful—the mystery continues.
